A Case of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

Abstract
A case of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria was presented. Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is an uncommon disease and not easy to make diagnosis when a clinician examines a patient at first. The present case was 26 years old Korean woman who had pallor, general weakness, anorexia, dizziness, oligmenorrhea and several times of abortion since 1969. When she came to the hospital on April 1973, she was treated with several times of transfusion or administration of iron preparation and steroid under the impression of a kind of hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia or iron deficiency anemia. She had suffered from early morning brown colored urination for several years.
The diagnosis was confirmed with positive Ham¢¥s test, increased reticulocytes, increased erythroblasts in marrow and slightly elevated serum bilirubin.
The mechanism and clinical manifestations of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglo binuria were discussed.
